Douglas recently participated in a workshop event in the Neiman Center at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The Chicago #AirQualityEgg 'Hackshop' was co-hosted with Argonne National Laboratory, The University of Chicago, Cosm.com and #Sensemakers. Kudus to Robb Drinkwater at the SAIC for taking the on-site organizational lead and facilitating a great event.

The HackShop hosted a number of interesting folks from parts hither and yon. Participants learned about sensor networks and the principles of collecting and working with open data through the framework of the #AirQualityEgg project .  Students, hackers, software developers, makers, and technology professionals from business and academia all converged to work in teams to solder and assembly air quality sensor units, lasercut enclosures, deploy these units in the city, and build applications, analysis tools, and visualizations with the real-time data.

Until at the Lillstreet Art Center. Come see Kimberly and Douglas' work at the Lillstreet Art Center's "Configured Spaces" show. The exhibit runs through August 5th and features another data collecting botanical machine from studio Until.

Until at the Evanston Art Center. Come see Kimberly's prints at the Evanston Art Center's "Hand made Prints II" show. The exhibit runs through August 31 and features a great collection of work from artists working in print media.

Until in Helsinki

Douglas recently represented the S.A.I.C. at the Northern World Mandate conference, the annual gathering of the Cumulus organization. Cumulus is the only global association to serve art and design education and research. It is a forum for partnership and transfer of knowledge and best practices. Cumulus consists currently of 189 member institutions from 46 countries.

This year's conference has hosted by the campuses of Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki - Espoo, Finland - currently recognized as the 2012 World Design Capital. The conference event and the context were fabulous. Great thanks to the Cumulus group and all of the hosts and organizers for creating a stimulating exchange of knowledge and wonderful ongoing channel for engaging the global design community.
