Douglas recently participated in a workshop event in the Neiman Center at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The Chicago #AirQualityEgg 'Hackshop' was co-hosted with Argonne National Laboratory, The University of Chicago, Cosm.com and #Sensemakers. Kudus to Robb Drinkwater at the SAIC for taking the on-site organizational lead and facilitating a great event.
The HackShop hosted a number of interesting folks from parts hither and yon. Participants learned about sensor networks and the principles of collecting and working with open data through the framework of the #AirQualityEgg project . Students, hackers, software developers, makers, and technology professionals from business and academia all converged to work in teams to solder and assembly air quality sensor units, lasercut enclosures, deploy these units in the city, and build applications, analysis tools, and visualizations with the real-time data.
